The View From Here – Spoken Poem

—

Healing changes us in ways we never expected.

Once, a cocoon
formed around my life.

Inside was time to heal,

time to wonder
what life might look like
when the day came
to step outside again.

In my mind,
the woman emerging
would be familiar.

Me.

The woman
I remembered.

But as the cocoon opened
and there was room
to stretch,

something surprised me.

Wings.

Where did those come from?

A smile appeared
as thoughts wandered
to where they might take me.

There were places
waiting to be seen,

questions worth following,

and a world
ready to be explored again.

Going far
wasn’t necessary.

Home was still home,

a place to return
after following my curiosity
wherever it might lead.

Then one evening,
the mountains caught my eye.

That view
was an old friend.

The sun slipped
behind the mountaintops,

leaving reds, oranges,
and gold across the sky.

For once,
the camera could wait.

Watching was enough.

Remembering
how the colors looked,

how the evening felt,

and making another
memory picture.

Funny.

The mountains
hadn’t moved.

The sunset
had always been there.

Yet something about
the view had changed.

My cocoon gave me
the time I needed.

What happened inside
was something
I never expected.

So much had changed.

Stepping out,
I went looking
for someone familiar

and smiled
at who I found.

The mountains are still there.

The sun still fills the sky
with colors
I never want to forget.

Now these wings
can carry me somewhere new,

give me a place to land,

and bring me home again.

From wherever
life takes me next,

I wonder
what the view
will look like from there.

Sometimes one story leads naturally to another. Here are a few more reflections from my journey.

I Keep Thinking There’s Still Enough Time.

Dreams That Refused To Die.

One More Sunset.

Thank you for spending a few moments with me today.

.A Few Things About Me

I love being in the middle of Mother Nature. Give me a cup of coffee, a trail with no destination and a beautiful sky, and I have everything I need.
