When Starting Again Feels Like a Battle

—

This morning didn’t go the way I planned.

There was chaos in the house, and I didn’t do my physical therapy. I knew it, and I could feel it weighing on me.

It stayed with me longer than I wanted it to.

Not loud, not overwhelming… just there. Sitting in the background, reminding me that I had stepped away from something I said I would do.

Later, when everything got quiet, I went for a walk.

Not because I felt ready… but because I didn’t want to stay where I was.

There’s a difference between those two things, and I’m starting to recognize it.

My body noticed.

Every step reminded me I had ignored it earlier.

And there was another part of me answering back.

I’m still going.
I’m taking the next step anyway.

It didn’t feel calm.

It felt like a back-and-forth… a quiet battle between what I felt and what I knew I needed.

One part of me wanted to stop, to give in to the discomfort, to tell myself I had already missed the moment.

The other part kept pushing gently forward.

Not aggressively. Not all at once.

Just enough to keep going.

For a moment, I wasn’t sure which one was going to win.

But I kept walking.

Not as far as I had planned. I didn’t push myself to the full limit. I pulled back a little.

That part matters too.

Because this isn’t about forcing myself through everything anymore.

It’s about learning how to move forward without pushing myself past what I can handle.

Even now, sitting here, I can feel it.

My body isn’t exactly happy with me.

And I know what comes next. Stretching. Taking care of what I pushed through.

That used to feel like something extra… something I didn’t always make time for.

Now I see it differently.

It’s part of the same process.

This has been an ongoing thing for me—learning when to push, and when to listen.

Learning which battles are worth fighting, and which ones don’t need to be won all at once.

Somewhere inside those quieter moments, I’ve slowly been learning to trust myself again.

Because I’m starting to understand something.

I don’t have to win every part of the battle to keep moving forward.

I just have to choose it… in the moment I’m in.

And sometimes, choosing it doesn’t feel strong.

It feels uncomfortable.

Like resistance.

Like doing something anyway, even when part of me doesn’t want to.

But in my heart, I know I did the right thing.
